Abstract

The transmission of hemoparasites to pets, especially domestic dogs, has become in a really harmful issue for dog's health, since they are highly pathogenic, being of great importance in public health due to the spread of several diseases to the human population; one of them is the canine rickettsiosis, which is recognized as an infectious disease of important global spreading, whose etiological agent is the rickettsia ehrlichia canis which infects circulating monocytes in a intracytoplasmic way. Thus, this study aims to describe the incidence and risk factors of canine rickettsiosis at the Doggy's veterinary clinic in Bogotá, from 2012 to 2015. A descriptive methodology was carried out, using the records of the patients of the clinic in the years described. A total of 3640 patients were treated, determining a prevalence of canine rickettsiosis of 6.04%. Then an analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed; and it was verified that the data fulfilled the Shapiro-Wilk test, showing that the data are normal.
