TUMORES DE GLÁNDULA MAMARIA EN CANINOS

Resumen

La glándula mamaria, con excepción de la piel, es el sitio más común para la presentación de neoplasias en hembras; constituye entre el 25 y el 50 % de la presentación en general de estas y el 82 % de las del tracto reproductivo. Es el tumor maligno más común y de estos, aproximadamente un 50 % son benignos y el otro 50 % son malignos. Se presentan más en hembras (97 – 100 %) que en machos (0 – 3 %) y son más susceptibles hembras no ovariohisterectomisadas (OVH) en edad avanzada, con una mayor presentación en las glándulas caudales, porque presenta mayor número de células sensibles a la transformación tumoral.
La OVH temprana tiene un efecto protector para el desarrollo de la tumorogénesis; si se realiza después de los dos años y medio de vida este efecto protector es casi nulo. El método diagnóstico de elección es el estudio histopatológico, ya que muchas personas (propietario, estudiantes y médicos veterinarios) al observar la masa mamaria, la diagnostican inmediatamente como un tumor mamario, sin estudios previos (en especial histopatológicos). El tratamiento de elección es la resección quirúrgica, excepto para los carcinomas inflamatorios, dicho procedimiento resulta curativo en un 50 % de los pacientes con tumores de mama malignos. Por último, el pronóstico depende de la estadificación tumoral según la clasificación por la Organización Mundial para la Salud (OMS). El objetivo de este, es realizar una revisión bibliográfica referente a etiología, examen clínico, diagnóstico, clasificación y tratamientos utilizados tradicionalmente en neoplasias de la glándula mamaria.
